Somebody Loves You (#336)
I am glad you came to visit me tonight to get a treat. I am giving you this little leaflet to tell you a tiny bit of the history of Halloween.
One time, long, long ago, in a country far from here, the church decided to use the last night in October to celebrate and remember the saints. Saints were people who followed Jesus and gave their lives to help others.
During this special evening the poor could go to the homes of Christians and ask for food. (They didn’t shout: “Trick or Treat” though.) Christians were glad to offer them food, just like I was glad when you knocked on my door tonight.
I’m happy to give you a treat because this is a special night for me too. Tonight I get to urge you to trust Jesus.
Jesus cares about us more than you can ever imagine. He even died on the cross so you and I can get right with God. By putting my trust in Jesus, I became a Christian, and I hope you will too!
If you decide to trust Jesus, you will turn this into a REAL Hallowe’en–a holy evening–and you will make Jesus smile and the angels sing.
If you are ready to trust Jesus, here is a prayer for you:
“Jesus, I am sorry for the things I do and say that are wrong. Take care of me and help me to put my trust in you. Amen”
