Somethings Missing (#138)
Something’s Missing
“I decide what I’m going to do and how I’m going to live my life. If it doesn’t hurt someone else, then it is OK. Nobody tells me what to do.”
Sound familiar? This is a way of life for most people. Some call this freedom. But it has bound us in chains. And when practiced widely, it can break families and communities.
The Bible calls this sin. This kind of thinking and behavior essentially tells our Creator to ‘Get lost’.
Is it any wonder that it feels like something’s missing? Or that our lives are headed the wrong way?
God has bigger plans for us. He wants us to live by His agenda. He wants us to turn from our self-centered ways. He wants to be involved in every part of our lives because He has gifts to give us in every part of our lives.
He wants us to immerse ourselves in his project for people–to bring the kingdom of heaven to earth.
Can you even begin to imagine what it is like to live like this? Jesus calls it ‘abundant life’. Here is a sample of what the abundant life looks like:
1. You are safe as you work and live under God’s protection.
2. You can stop worrying. He controls outcomes, not you.
3. You have meaning as you engage in God’s plan for your circle of contacts.
4. You have power as you live with God’s resources. You become content and can set aside the constant striving for MORE.
5. You gain friends as you link up with others who live by God’s plan.
6. You need not fear death as you realize God’s plan for you extends past this short life.
Ready to change?
1. Re-think your point of reference–Repent.
2. Learn about and then lean on the work of Christ on your behalf–Ask Forgiveness.
3. Develop a minute by minute awareness of what God is doing in your life and wants to do in your circle of contacts. –Follow Christ.
4. Nourish yourself with the Bible. –Read the Bible.
5. Don’t try this alone. –Attend a good church and make friends there.
