#4 TEN RULES FOR SUCCESSFUL LIVING FROM GOD
God’s Rules for Successful Living
1. I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods before me. Put God first in your life. God wants to shape everything you are and everything you do. Look to God for every good thing.
2. You shall not make for yourself an idol. You shall not bow down to them or worship them. Worship God, not His followers, or some image of God.
3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God. Take God seriously. Don’t use His name lightly or in anger.
4. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Take one day a week to worship God and learn who He is. Get together with others to worship.
These first four commandments teach us what our relation to God should be.
5. Honor your father and mother. Honor and respect everyone who has authority over you; Your parents, teachers, supervisors, police.
6. You shall not murder. Do not do anything that will hurt someone else.
7. You shall not commit adultery. Keep your sexual activity within marriage.
8. You shall not steal. Do not cheat anyone. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. Do not lie or exaggerate. Do not say anything that will cause harm to someone’s reputation.
10. You shall not covet. Be content with what you have. Look to God for every good thing.
These six commandments teach us what our relation to each other should be.
(The Ten Commandments can be found in Exodus 20:1-17.)
When Jesus was asked which commandment was the most important; this is what He answered:
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength; this is the first commandment.
And the second is like it; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is no other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:29-31
