What is up with you young people? If an adult asks a question, it’s likely they will hear you say: “Whatever.” Adults feel they’re just being ignored or dismissed.
Most adults might find that you have given a lot of thought to issues in life. Many of you are feeling a deep sense of skepticism or anxiety about the present and the future.
High school students might look like they have it all together. They wear the right clothes and hang out with the ‘cool’ crowd. How many of them also cry themselves to sleep when they can’t meet the expectations of their parents or other adults? Many struggle with broken homes. They deal with struggles of drugs, sex and suicide. ‘Whatever’ can be a way to put on a mask in order to hide the pain.
If you are a teenager, the marketers have a plan for you. Studies show that the teen market ages twelve to seventeen spends over 150 billion dollars a year. What’s on your wish list? Whatever!
No matter what you buy or how you look, the Bible has a message for you: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13
You need to know that God has open arms for you if you really seek him. You can be accepted by him no matter how you feel about your past. He has a plan for you. He wants you to thrive.
A lot of people have an agenda for you. They want to use you or sell things to you. God wants a relationship with you. He loves you. What are you going to do about it?
If you want to know more about God’s love for you, talk to a Christian, read the Gospel of John and visit a Bible-teaching church.
Can’t wait? You can talk to a waiting God right now: “God will you bring someone into my life soon who can help me understand how to have a relationship with you?”
