Why I Became a Christian (#89)
Bible version used: NIV
#89 WHY I BECAME A CHRISTIAN
My friend tried to persuade me to believe in Jesus Christ so that when I die I will go to heaven.
A pastor tried to persuade me to believe in Jesus Christ to escape the dreadful punishment that awaits me for living apart from God.
I read a tract that tried to persuade me to believe in Jesus Christ so that my life would start to make sense.
On television I was encouraged to believe in Jesus Christ so I would live long and well.
I became a Christian, but not because of these reasons.
The reason I am a Christian is because I believe what the Bible says about Jesus is true.
Jesus said he is the Son of God, and that he is the only way to God. The events reported over and over again in the new Testament ring true to me; that Jesus suffered the just punishment of God for the sins of the world, that God raised him from the dead, and that Jesus is now in heaven preparing to return in glory.
I became a Christian when I accepted what Jesus did on my behalf and resolved to live according to his teachings.
My life didn’t become easy, but I became stronger. My needs and desires continue to change as my faith grows. Life has become focused and my days are marked by a sturdy inner peace that I never had before I was a Christian.
You can become a Christian too. Jesus will never force you to believe in him. If you believe Jesus is who the Bible says he is, tell him you believe, ask him to come into your life and give you faith. He loves you, and you matter to him.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:31
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20
