Born Again (#82)
Bible version used: NKJV
Jesus said, I tell you the truth: no one can see the Kingdom of God unless he is BORN AGAIN.
BORN AGAIN has become a popular expression.
What does this phrase mean? To be born physically means that a new creature was begotten by physical methods. To be born again means that a new creature was begotten by spiritual methods.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:6
What is the result? When one is born physically, he becomes a child of physical parents. When one is born again, he becomes a child of God.
And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:10, 14
Is there a basic change? When one is born physically, he begins to live this natural life. In spite of troubles, most people want to live. We desire a long, rich life, but we know it will end. When one is born again, he begins to live a new life. We are at peace with God; our sins are forgiven; our guilt is gone; we have new goals and attitudes. And at death we enter a still higher life of joy—forever!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
Where do I find out more? You can learn more about physical birth from books of biology and medicine. You can learn more about being born again from God’s book, the Bible.
. . . having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever. I Peter 1:23
This may be hard for you to understand. It was hard also for Nicodemus when Jesus first told him. Read the story in the third chapter of the Gospel of John. Jesus wanted Nicodemus (and He wants you) to be born again to everlasting life. He said:
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
