The Ultimate Race (#145)
Bible version used: NKJV
Racing is a big part of my life
Winning is great, but finishing well was
my main goal. I don’t race anymore, but I enjoy watching others.
The most important race in my life began when my 1 year old daughter developed a tumor. I had no idea how I would finish in this race.
I have a friend who is a pastor and I turned to him in the distress of those days. He first asked if it would be OK if his church family prayed for me and my daughter. He encouraged me to examine my life and suggested that
God had some important things to tell me.
He pointed me to some passages in the Bible that seemed like they were written just for me.
I read those words eagerly and made some amazing discoveries.
I discovered that God didn’t send this illness to my daughter to punish me.I discovered that God often uses dreadful circumstances to call people back to Him.I discovered that no matter how a person feels, God deeply cares about all who turn to Him.I discovered that God was calling me to turn to Him, to give my life to Him and trust Him even in the face of death.
I've read a lot more of the Bible since
then. I saw and felt God’s love for me and
I responded, giving my life to Him.
The change in my life has been amazing.
I never used to think of faith as giving me endurance for the hardest race of my life.
I have peace that carries me through hard times.Really hard times... because my daughter died peacefully in my arms 2 years after they found the tumor.
God came to me just at the right time— just in time to hold me when I held my daughter for the last time.
God has made me a winner. I know that no matter what happens in my life tommorrow,
I am going to finish this race well.
If you want to win the most important race in your life, do like I did— throw yourself into the arms of a loving and caring God.

Here is what the Bible says to all who turn to Him: James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. (KJV)
The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save: He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17 (NKJV)
