WHAT DID JESUS DO...for you?
Perhaps you’ve seen the bracelets with the letters W.W.J.D.?: What Would Jesus Do? These four letters are a helpful reminder for those who follow him that daily obedience matters.
If you are not a follower of Jesus, there is a more important question. W.D.J.D.?: What DID Jesus Do...for you ? Well, quite a lot actually.
1. Jesus left his home in heaven and entered our world.
God saw the need of mankind and sent his son on a divine rescue mission. Philippians 2:7 says Jesus emptied himself, took on a human body, and came to us like a servant.
2. Jesus reached out to us even though we were sinners.
He ushered in a kind of undercover kingdom-not like any earthly kingdom- but one that rules in the hearts of his followers. Where Jesus rules, people become whole. Colossians 1:20 says that Jesus came to bring peace through his death on the cross.
3. Jesus suffered and died as an atonement for all our sins.
1 John 2:2 says Jesus took the full penalty of our sins. Our guilt is gone! 1 John 4:10 says we are reconciled to God because of what Jesus has done.
4. Jesus defeated death. He rose from the grave and appeared to hundreds of witnesses.
Acts 10:41 says many witnessed the risen Jesus. He has turned the fearful grave into a doorway to heaven for all who follow him.
5. Jesus returned to heaven where he hears the prayers of his followers and prepares for his return.
His mission was accomplished, and Jesus returned to the Father. Acts 1:9 says the disciples watched as Jesus was taken up out of their sight. John 14 says Jesus is preparing a place for all who follow him and he will come back to take his followers to be with him for eternity.
So what? Jesus paid the price so that you could be forgiven of your sin and experience the life that God wants for you. But you must respond to God’s provision before it will do you any good. You need to turn from your life without God, admit your need for him, and trust him.
W.D.J.D.? Now you know. Of all the world religions, none has ever described a divine rescue comparable to that of Jesus’.
A.R.C. spells the way to respond to this good news.
Accept and believe that Jesus is who he says he is.
Repent-turn from your life without him and fall into the loving hands of Jesus.
Commit your life to him and his purposes in this world. Let Jesus reign in your heart and make you whole!
