#309 YOU’RE RIGHT... PROVIDED
You may say, “I’m a child of God because I’ve been baptized.”
YOU’RE RIGHT, PROVIDED
that the outward baptizing with water signified the cleansing of your soul by Jesus Christ.
‘You must repent,’ Peter answered, ‘and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ.’ Acts 2:38
You may say, “My sins are forgiven because I’ve confessed them.”
YOU’RE RIGHT, PROVIDED
that you have true sorrow for your sins. Then you have been truly forgiven by God who alone can forgive sins.
I it is, I it is, who must blot out everything and not remember your sins. Isaiah 43:25
You may say, “Christ is living in me because I receive his body and blood in the sacrament of communion.”
YOU’RE RIGHT, PROVIDED
that the taking of these elements is an indication that Jesus Christ has truly been invited into your life.
St. Paul wrote, “I have been crucified with Christ, and I live now not with my own life but with the life of Christ who lives in me. The life I now live in this body I live in faith: faith in the Son of God who loved me and who sacrificed himself for my sake.” Galatians 2:20
You may say, I’ll go to heaven because I’m a member of the church.”
YOU’RE RIGHT, PROVIDED
that you have accepted Jesus, who is the head of the Church, as your only way of salvation.
He (God the Father) has put all things under his (Jesus’) feet, and made him, as the ruler of everything, the head of the Church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills the whole creation. Ephesians 1:22, 23
You may say, God is pleased with me because I do much good.”
YOU’RE RIGHT, PROVIDED
that you do these good works not to earn your salvation but to show your gratitude to God for His mercy in saving you.
Because it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith; not by anything of your own, but by a gift from God; not by anything that you have done, so that nobody can claim the credit. We are God’s work of art, created in Christ Jesus to live the good life as from the beginning he had meant us to live it. Ephesians 2:8-10
